Seattle Evaluation of the 1998-2001 Demonstration Program for Innovative Housing Design
Seattle Department of Design, Construction and Land Use
To evaluate constructed
demonstration projects,
including cottages and detached
ADUs, to inform future land use code
changes.
The City of
Seattle's evaluation of detached
ADUs and
cottages constructed under a special
demonstration program found that
with the right development
standards, the housing types can
positively
add to Seattle's single family
neighborhoods while providing more
housing options. The evaluation also
found that the majority of surveyed
residents living near the
demonstration projects found their
impacts to
be positive or neutral.

Summary Report for Waterfront Park and Housing
EDAW, with GGLO
Purpose: To determine use of a 1.4
acre site in downtown adjacent to
Percival Landing (developed public
waterfront boardwalk).
A
charrette process examined park
and housing use of the site. The
conclusion of the charrette process
was: 1) to develop the site as a park
(various detailed park designs were
proposed), 2) develop housing on
additional City owned property
immediately adjacent to the park site
(moving the current surface parking
to other publicly owned land close
by), and 3) prepare a plan for
additional housing on downtown
area blocks adjacent to parks and
Percival Landing (enough amenity
appeared to be available to make
newly developed housing projects
feasible.)
